Time Travel

If time travel were possible I think the first and oldest place I would like to visit would be Biblical times. It may sound doubtful, but I would like to validate my religious beliefs by being an actual eye witness during the times of Christ. I think being able to witness, or not witness, the beginnings of the scripture and the life of Jesus would help me confirm what I have always believed to be true. I know religion is based on faith, but I think if given the chance most people would travel back in time to witness the events on which we base our religions.

The next era I would like to visit would be during World War II. I have always been interested by this time period. I feel as though this is the time which youth were established  as a major party in American culture. I would also like to visit and observe all of my grandparents from a younger age. I think knowing how they grew up would help me have a better understanding of their rules and traditions.

This leads me to my next destination which is the childhood of my parents. I would like to have the chance to observe my parents through their childhood and young adult lives as to gain a better understanding of their personalities. I know every child argues with their parents, but I think being able to witness their upbringing would help me communicate better with both my mom and dad.

I would be scared to time travel for risk of changing the future. As I’m sure most remember in “Back to the Future” with Michael J. Fox. He almost risks his existence when his parents start to communicate with their future child. I would try to remain solely as an observer as to not create a rift in time. In all destinations of my time travel I may alter my entire existence with one simple interaction.

Valentine’s Day

Worst Gift Ever

Valentine’s Day is probably one of the most commercialized holidays in America. Couples across the country express their love by exchanging material possessions. While some people give flowers and chocolate other people go a little overboard.

I’m one of those overboard people.

By being an over zealous gift giver I pretty much set myself up for disappointment when it comes to somewhat trivial holidays such as Valentine’s Day.

I remember one instance in particular about three years ago with my then-boyfriend on Valentine’s Day. I like to think of myself as a pretty good gift giver; he on the other hand was not. I was so excited for this Valentine’s Day because we were combining our Valentine’s Day and 1-year anniversary into one celebration.

I took this double celebration and ran with it. I had paid for him and me to go to a cabin in Pigeon Forge for a weekend. I was so excited to give him his gift, and I was also a little curious to see what he came up with.

He got to my house before dinner gift in-tow. He had gotten me a balloon and a cookie cake. I knew I went a little over the top, but a cookie cake. Really? One year and all he could come up with was a cookie cake?

Needless to say, I was slightly disappointed, and next Valentine’s Day all he got was a card.

PR Valentine’s Day Persuasion

If I were a greeting card company, florist, or chocolate manufacturer it would be hard to gain the attention of the public on Valentine’s Day. From a pr standpoint I would try to capture the public eye by spinning my items to include local appeal. Buying local means fresher products, less delivery costs, and support for the local economy.

Greeting cards could feature pictures from local romantic locations which may inspire emotional appeals from potential buyers. Flowers would be guaranteed fresh and on time. Delivery would be short and the flowers would have no time to wilt. Chocolate    could feature local farmers and may be customized based on the desires of a particular town’s demographic.

The items could also be marketed with a discount to members of the local Better Business Bureau and Chamber of Commerce. Members of these organization would be more attracted to local products, especially if it came at a discount.

Time Sensitive

There are a lot of things that annoy me from someone smacking their gum to certain tones of voice. These things just get on my nerves. However, one thing that really drives me crazy is when people are not on time. Granted, I am usually five minutes early everywhere I go, I still find it annoying when other people can’t respect my time.

There have been multiple times in my life when I go out of my way to help a friend, and they end up being late. This is so annoying because I may interpret the tardiness as someone not respecting me or my time as much as their own. Showing time is showing appreciation for me going out of my way.

If our culture operated more like a Spanish culture, then I might not be so annoyed. However  the United States has developed into a very time-sensitive culture.

So just as a word of advice to those of you who tend to be late: say you’re going to be late. If you’re going to be late, then I can save my time and meet you at a time you will actually be available.

I try not to lose my patience over an issue so trivial as this, but it does annoy me when it happens on a regular basis.

I know that tardiness will always be a problem with some of my peers. I’ll just keep using my blog as a way to relieve my stress.

Take Me to the Movies

I know it’s frowned upon to say you don’t read, but I don’t really read. This is not to say I can’t read; I just don’t particularly enjoy it. I honestly can’t remember the last time I read a novel for enjoyment.

I prefer movies because I like to physically see the characters come to life. I love that I can see their emotion and hear their jokes. I just feel as though visual portrayals of characters are more dynamic than characters in books.

I did hear that certain movies like Harry Potter and Twilight were better as books, and I would love to prove that to myself but I just do not have enough patience. I have zero reading comprehension. When I read a book I constantly find myself thinking about things that don’t apply to the book at all. Movies hold my attention because the interaction of the actors makes the story much more believable.

This may sound ridiculous but I think my favorite book to movie adaptation would be How the Grinch Stole Christmas (both versions). The old one is classic and reminds me of my childhood and the new one is funny and also heartwarming. I love that song that Cindy Loo Who sings.

Why is this my favorite adaptation? Well, it’s honestly the last book adaptation that I actually remember reading the book. At least it’s a classic.

So, sorry if it sounds like my imagination is lacking, but I don’t like reading. I can watch movies all day, but reading just puts me to sleep.

The 2-itemed Bucket List

I’ve never given much thought to things I’d like to accomplish before I die, however I’ve already begun to attempt two items which are somewhat related.

For a little background everyone should know I love to travel and I absolutely love Greek food. Unfortunately for the Greek food, my love of travel was developed much earlier in life.

My mom is a flight attendant for Delta, because of this I have been given the opportunity to travel to many places around the world. This explains the first item on my bucket list, because I want to see as much of the world as I can before I die. So far I have been to 13 different countries in South America, Europe, and Asia, and I cannot wait to get even more stamps in my passport.

Now where does the love of Greek food come into play? Junior year I was in a little town in Germany with my high school boyfriend. He swore up and down that I had to try this sandwich called a gyro (lamb meat wrapped in pita bread with cucumber sauce). As skeptical as I was I tried it, and I will be dammed if that wasn’t the best thing I’ve to this day ever eaten. After that I was hooked and started ordering gyros everywhere they were available.

It was then that the second item on my bucket list was born. For every country that I travel to I must eat a gyro there. I have been fulfilling this bucket list item ever since.

I’ll try to work on developing my bucket list to be a little more exciting, but until then all I’ve got is my passport and a pita.
